Fabulous Circa 1900 Silver Enamel Guilloche Berry Strawberry Shot Cup Goblet! Fully hallmarked on the base (6th image), 925 which indicates high silver content, and the makers mark which I was not able to clearly decipher, perhaps you can? The inner silver shows signs that it was gold washed. Weighs approximately 34.9 grams. This beautiful strawberries goblet is approximately 4.25 cm (1 11/16 inches) in length. Three vitreous glass chips (largest on 5th image) one due to impact to the base of the silver goblet (bottom of 6th image), with some loss to the underlying enamel. Even with all the damages the goblet remains the most beautiful goblet I have ever encountered! There are four strawberries altogether two and two with the same design pattern, thus the two symbolize toi et moi, you and me, a wonderful strawberry love cup! So if you love strawberries than nothing can match this beautiful goblet!
Check out my other Museum Quality Collection! The damage gives the viewer the opportunity to visualize the different layers of work and technique, similar to the sliced up submarines at museums, or the sliced up V rocket at the Deutsches Museum in Munich Germany, so the damage adds character, and gives one less to fear in terms of damaging a perfect piece, no? The goblet was created in three stages, first the main silver form, second the enamel guilloche, and third a layer of vitreous glass the give a perfect smooth surface and protective layer, I have seen cigarette cases with the same technique but this is the first goblet to follow that method which I have encountered.
